MONTEREY, CA—The Portola Hotel & Spa is planning a complete renovation of its tree-lined atrium lobby, together with construction of a new $3.5-million entrance plaza and 40,000-sq.-ft. MIAMI—An affiliate of Gencom has acquired Peninsula Papagayo Resort, a 1,400-acre luxury master development in Costa Rica’s Guanacaste province. The exact sum of the acquisition was not disclosed, but Karim Alibhai, principal of Gencom, said it was north of $250 million, and after renovations and development, total investment will be some $750 million.

CHICAGO—Waldorf Astoria Chicago has added 7,914 sq. ft. of meeting and event space on the hotel’s third floor. Included in the renovation are four new venues: Hawthorne, Alcott, and Thoreau meeting rooms, along with a private dining room. NEW ORLEANS—Moxy Hotels recently opened the brand’s second stateside property, Moxy New Orleans. LONDON—The Langham, London is planning to add several new suites and residences slated to launch this summer. The new rooms will be located in the main building facing Portland Place, with views of the BBC and All Souls Church buildings.
NEW YORK—Anbang Insurance Group Co. Ltd., owner of the Waldorf Astoria New York, is planning to close the hotel for about three years while up to three-quarters of the property’s guestrooms—1,000 of its 1,413 rooms—will be converted into condos, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal.
ASBURY PARK, NJ—The Asbury has opened. As the first new hotel here in more than 50 years, this marks the next chapter in the city’s rebirth. The 110-room property is part of the multibillion-dollar redevelopment plan for the area by master developer iStar, a 10-year proposal hailed as one of the most significant redevelopment plans on the Eastern Seaboard, according to the company.
NEW ORLEANS—The independent boutique hotel known as Hotel Modern has been sold to Hawkeye Hotels, a privately held hotel group headquartered in Iowa City, IA. Hawkeye Hotels purchased the property on June 22 and plans to completely renovate the property.
PHILADELPHIA—The Ritz-Carlton, Philadelphia has reopened following a yearlong, $25-million renovation. The hotel was originally built as a reproduction of the Pantheon when it opened in 1908 as The Girard Trust Company.
PADUCAH, KY—The 1857 Hotel, which recently opened here, is housed in a renovated red-brick antebellum building. According to the owners, the property originally served as a gentlemen's haberdashery and an adjoining turn-of-the-century tractor repair shop.
BOSTON—Boston Park Plaza has completed a comprehensive, multi-year, $100-million renovation and restoration project. The extensive transformation includes the complete overhaul of the hotel's 1,060 guestrooms and corridors, main entrances and lobby, meeting spaces, mezzanine levels, the addition of a library room and the replacement of all furniture and fixtures.

BARCELONA, SPAIN—A mosaic-tiled floor depicts more than imagery or pattern, there are traces of time-gone-by: scuffs and scratches of where people walked, ran or even danced. This was just one of the discoveries found in a mid-19th-century building that now houses Casa Bonay, a 67-room boutique hotel based here. A desire to save and reclaim the building’s architectural details informed Brooklyn-based Studio Tack’s design treatment for the property.

ATLANTA—Noble Investment Group has opened the 252-room Hotel Indigo Savannah Historic District located at 201 West Bay St. in Savannah, GA. Managed by IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group), the hotel is situated in the former Guckenheimer tobacco warehouse and grocery, a nationally registered landmark built in 1850.
HOUSTON—Sotherly Hotels Inc. is rebranding the Crowne Plaza Houston Downtown hotel to The Whitehall, returning the hotel to its original name. PORTLAND, OR—The Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront here has completed a renovation of its Oregon Ballroom. The ballroom’s makeover was the final piece in the 506-room hotel’s overall refresh, which included new guestrooms, an M Club Lounge and fitness center.

MCLEAN, VA—Following a multimillion-dollar renovation, Redmont Hotel Birmingham has joined Curio - A Collection by Hilton as the brand's second hotel in Alabama after the recent opening of The Admiral Hotel Mobile.

Main St. in downtown Lexington, KY. 21c Lexington is an adaptive-reuse of the 100-year-old Fayette National Bank Building and offers 7,000 sq. ft. of contemporary art exhibition space open free of charge to the public, an 88-room boutique hotel and Lockbox restaurant and bar.
LINCOLN, CA—Thunder Valley Casino Resort is slated to add 111 luxury rooms and suites to its hotel this year. The project will include a complete renovation of its existing 297 rooms within the 17-story tower.

BOSTON—Gencom, a luxury hospitality and residential/mixed-use real estate investment and development firm, through its new partnership with Gemstone Hotels and Resorts, has acquired the 114-room Ames Boston Hotel in downtown Boston. The property will be operated by Gemstone Hotels & Resorts. Gencom and Gemstone will immediately undertake and jointly oversee a multimillion-dollar renovation to reposition the hotel. RobertDouglas was the exclusive advisor to the seller, a private investment group, in the sale.
CHICAGO—The Ritz-Carlton, Chicago will embark upon phase one of a multi-phase renovation in January. The upgrades will include the refashioning of the suites and corridors, upgrades to a state-of-the-art fitness center and the addition of an all-new Ritz-Carlton Club Lounge. San Francisco-based design firm BAMO has been tapped for the redesign. Completion of phase one is expected in spring 2016.

ST LOUIS—Marriott International has completed a $30-million overhaul of Renaissance St. Louis Grand, historically known as the Statler Hotel. The hotel, which will now bear the company's flagship Marriott brand name, is at 800 Washington Ave.

MCLEAN, VA—DoubleTree by Hilton Largo – Washington DC has opened following a complete renovation of the former Radisson hotel. The transformation included the lobby, public and recreation areas, guestrooms, meeting space and revamped restaurants and bar concepts.
HONOLULU—Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort completed a $7-million renovation of its Tapa Conference Center, which includes the Tapa Ballroom, Palace Lounge, Honolulu Suites and Iolani Suites. The new 16,536-sq.-ft. ballroom, which was completed on April 10, features a redesign inspired by patterns of Hawaiian tapa or kapa cloth expressed through color, images, textures, patterns and artwork by local artists.

SARAWAK, MALAYSIA—Marriott International, Inc. has opened its first rainforest resort in Asia-Pacific here in Mulu. The debut of the 101-room Mulu Marriott Resort & Spa marks the second property under the flagship of Marriott Hotels brand on the Island of Borneo and the eighth for Marriott International in Malaysia.
BETHESDA, MD—Mariott International’s Autograph Collection has added The Mayflower Hotel, the newly renovated Washington, DC, landmark, to its portfolio, which currently consists of 86 hotels worldwide.

LARGO, MD—Construction is nearly complete on the DoubleTree by Hilton Largo/Washington DC here. The hotel, which currently holds a Radisson flag, is owned by Frontier Development & Hospitality Group LLC and managed by Crescent Hotels & Resorts. It will complete its multimillion dollar upgrade to a DoubleTree next month.
SOLVANG, CA—The Landsby, a newly renovated 41-room boutique hotel opens its doors today here. The property was redesigned by L.A.-based firm Studio Collective led by principals Christian Schulz, Adam Goldstein and Leslie Kale.
MCLEAN, VA—Hilton Worldwide plans to open its first Hilton Garden Inn on Oahu in Waikiki. The 623-guestroom Hilton Garden Inn Waikiki Beach will be managed by Evolution Hospitality and is on track to open early in 2016 after undergoing extensive renovation.
COLUMBUS, OH—The renovation of the Westin Columbus is rolling out in phases, and the first phase, including lobby and public space, has been completed. According to the company, the final product will blend contemporary and classic styles.
PARK CITY, UT—The DoubleTree by Hilton Park City - The Yarrow, a 182-room mountain property formerly known as The Yarrow Resort Hotel & Conference Center, has opened and debuts a multimillion-dollar renovation featuring updates throughout the hotel's guestrooms, meeting spaces and public areas.
DUSSELDORF, GERMANY—Swedish design agency Stylt Trampoli has been chosen by hotel chain 25hours to create a design concept for its latest project, 25hours Düsseldorf. The new hotel will open in the spring of 2018.
RIVIERA MAYA—Palladium Hotels & Resorts will renovate its resorts in Punta Cana and the Grand Palladium Lady Hamilton Resort & Spa in Montego Bay. The upgrades, slated for completion by November 1, 2015, and December 15, 2015, respectively, will include expanded family-friendly accommodations, additional dining options and revamped room décor.

PARIS—Hilton Worldwide has reached an agreement to rebrand Paris' Astor Hotel Saint-Honoré under Curio - A Collection by Hilton. The hotel, owned by Maranatha Group, will undergo a substantial refurbishment.
LOS ALTOS, CA— Inspired by French architecture, decor and European-style hospitality, Enchanté Boutique Hotel officially opened on April 1, 2015 making it the first hotel in the Los Altos Village, the downtown of Los Altos, home to many of Silicon Valley’s leading tech industry entrepreneurs.
LOUISVILLE, KY—The Embassy Suites Lousiville Downtown has opened here, an adaptive-reuse hotel in the historic former Stewart’s Dry Goods Building. The 304-suite hotel is owned by Eric P. Bachelor and managed by Al J. Schneider Co.
LAS VEGAS—Bellagio recently completed the remodel of the final 403 suites in the resort’s main tower. This marks the conclusion of an approximately $165-million remodel that began in 2011 and encompassed all 3,933 of the resort’s rooms and suites.
CASTRIES, ST. LUCIA—Rendezvous, the Caribbean hideaway designed exclusively for couples, has revealed a $12.5-million renovation that updates its Seaside Suites and Verandah Suites with brand new bathrooms, room layouts, furniture and color schemes, and will later this year add a new à la carte beachside restaurant, Malabar.
TAIPEI, TAIWAN—The Grand Hyatt Taipei is celebrating its relaunch April 23 after a top-to-bottom renovation that fleshed out the hotel from its concrete bones. As part of the redo, each of the property’s 853 rooms and suites was stripped to the fundamentals, redesigned and rebuilt.
PHILADELPHIA—The Westin Philadelphia has completed a $10-million renovation. The hotel has enhanced all of its 294 guestrooms, including 19 suites, making this transformation part of the Westin brand’s efforts to continuously refresh its rapidly growing global portfolio, which topped 200 hotels worldwide in 2014.
SAN DIEGO—The Hilton San Diego Mission Valley Hotel has completed its multimillion-dollar renovation. The renovation includes the redesign of the hotel’s lobby, interior public spaces, 350 guestrooms and suites, and the addition of a new city-view executive lounge.
PARIS—Sofitel Paris Le Faubourg recently completed renovations conceived by renowned interior designer Didier Gomez. The property also unveiled a new culinary concept, STAY Paris Le Faubourg, created by three-star Michelin Chef Yannick Alléno.
CARLISLE BAY, ANTIGUA—Carlisle Bay located here plans to offer new additions to the resort in 2015 with the inclusion of six luxurious Bay Suites and a refurbishment of all existing suites, resort-wide complimentary services and amenities, and the new waterfront Jetty Grill restaurant.

NEW YORK—Chelsea Hotels has completed the final phase of its latest hotel the Martha Washington Hotel, a landmark Renaissance Revival property in Manhattan’s NoMad neighborhood. This $30 million renovation project designed by Annabelle Selldorf includes new state-of-the-art meeting and events space, Veronica’s lobby bar and lounge, and Marta, a new Italian restaurant from Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group, led by Chef Nick Anderer. Also included are newly refreshed rooms, corridors and building façade.
SAN DIEGO—Embassy Suites has completed renovations made to its San Diego Bay – Downtown location. The $8.5 million project includes total restoration of the property’s atrium and lobby areas and completed updates to 341 guestrooms.
PORTLAND, ME—Autograph Collection has added The Press Hotel, located here, to its portfolio. Housed in the historic Portland Press Herald newspaper building, the lifestyle, boutique hotel is scheduled to open in May 2015.

MEXICO CITY—Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. has debuted Las Alcobas, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Mexico City located in the heart of the Polanco district. LONDON—Marriott International Inc. continues to expand its AC Hotels by Marriott brand, with three new properties in Valencia, Spain; Istanbul, Turkey; and Tel Aviv, Israel, bringing the total to 80 opened or signed hotels in Europe.

PECHANGA INDIAN RESERVATION, CA—The Pechanga Band of Luiseño Indians has unveiled plans to add a new luxury hotel wing, a luxury spa, new ballroom and meeting space, a resort-style pool complex, two restaurants, and related improvements to the Pechanga Resort & Casino located here.
NEW YORK—Wyndham Hotel Group is expanding its select-service TRYP by Wyndham brand here with the signing of a franchise agreement for a 334-room hotel in Manhattan’s Times Square, marking the brand’s second property in the market.
DETROIT—Detroit-based Kraemer Design Group, PLC (KDG) is on track to complete the architecture, interior design and historic consulting of the David Whitney Building in downtown Detroit that will reopen as a mixed-use facility featuring the Aloft Detroit at the David Whitney hotel in December.
OAHU, HI—The Resort Group (TRG), Westbank (WB) and Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts confirmed plans for Four Seasons Resort O'ahu at Ko Olina, an integrated luxury beach resort and private residences that will be part of the master-planned Ko Olina development.
PITTSBURGH—Sheraton Hotels & Resorts and Pyramid Hotel Group have completed a $15-million renovation of the Sheraton Pittsburgh at Station Square. The complete redesign features 399 transformed guestrooms including 21 suites as well as the hotel’s lobby, meeting space and Trackside Restaurant.
STAMFORD, CT—Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. has sold The St. Regis, Rome to subsidiaries of Constellation Hotels Holding Limited for €110 million (approximately $150.7 million). Starwood will continue to operate the hotel under the St. Regis brand flag as part of a new long-term management agreement.
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, CO—Fresh off the completion of a $16-million renovation project, Sheraton Steamboat Resort & Villas has unveiled an additional $8 million has been invested in renovating and refurbishing the property’s 21 villas, which are part of Starwood Vacation Ownership. The two- and three- bedroom villas have been updated to match the look and feel of the resort’s 56 new Mountain Suites, which debuted in December 2013.
