LONDON—The new InterContinental London Westminster has opened.
RPW Design was responsible for all enhancements to the interior design, decorative lighting, furniture and finishes of all public areas and guestrooms.
The hotel was designed to capture the traditions of Westminster and incorporate local references. The reception marble and mosaic floor was inspired by the floor at Westminster Abbey, and motifs from St. James Park were also used. Artwork themes relate to British political life.
The dominant feature of the guest lounge is a sculpture inspired by Jan Wilson, owner and managing director of RPW, and created by the studio Evil Robot Designs, which uses recycled model toys. The sculpture is a recreation of the House of Commons.
The Blue Boar Bar and Restaurant features dark wood paneling and warm tones, while the Tea Lounge and Emmeline’s, named for 19th century suffragette Emmeline Pankhurst. Color accents in the Tea Lounge’s furnishings include fuschia and lime.
A former government building, the hotel offers 256 rooms including 44 suites and a penthouse. The bedrooms were designed with a bright, warm palette of off-white with yellow highlights. They also feature wood paneling in a blond color and artwork that highlights Westminster’s streetscapes.
The hotel is owned by Supreme Hotels LLP with debt support from HSBC and is managed by IHG.
