The Mauna Lani Bay bungalows feature Jacuzzis and views.
KOHALA COAST, HI—The Mauna Lani Bay Hotel & Bungalows is working with design consultant WATG/Wimberly Interiors on a $30 million hotel renovation scheduled for 2013.
General Manager Robert Grant, said that “the renovation will heighten the authentic, timeless Hawaiian experience that our guests have come to enjoy since we opened our doors almost 30 years ago. Preserving and sharing the history and culture of Hawaii will remain a large part of our resort experience."
The Bungalows are currently being renovated and the new look will be completed in December. Hawaii interior designer Gina Willman created a “Hawaiian home away from home”. Two of the Bungalows are set in blues, turquoise and aqua drawing inspiration from the Pacific. The remaining three Bungalows feature tones of burnt orange and yellow inspired by the sunsets of the Kohala Coast.
The living space of each Bungalow will feature locally inspired artworks by Hawaiian artists and koa and coconut McGuire furniture. A punee (day bed) with decorative cushions will be available in a lounging area, along with private outdoor Jacuzzi and heated swimming pool.
Each Bungalow bedroom will feature a four poster bed with headboards that showcase a custom carving of the Hawaiian flower that each Bungalow is named after: Orchid, Bird of Paradise, Hibiscus, Plumeria and Heliconia.
The two master bathrooms each include a private tropical garden with a rain shower, standalone tub and washlet. Other enhancements include tiger wood and koa floors, wool carpets and an entertainment system with a 65-inch LED HD television and the latest Apple iMac.
The hotel guestroom design will harmonize with the architecture and will recapture the vision of the hotel’s original architect. WATG’s design concept will respect the historic site of Kalahuipua’a, home to Mauna Lani Bay.
